Creating the Project
Organizing the Information
1. In one word or phrase, state your topic.
2. Review your notes, and identify all of the information relevant to this topic by highlighting it.
3. In one sentence, state the main idea of your topic.
4. Do you have enough information to explain this main idea? If so, continue organizing your notes. If not, return to the computer to continue your research.
5. Put your relevant notes onto index cards, using one card for each note. Keep in mind that one source might provide more than one note. Also, be sure to put the information in your own words. Do not simply copy the information verbatim from your notes.
6. Lay you’re your index cards so that you can identify the order in which you will present your information.
7. Does your information raise any questions that should be answered to make your story complete? If so, return to the computer and continue your research. If not, continue organizing your data.
8. Once you have established the order in which you will present your information, number your index cards in that order.
Drafting the Presentation
9. Decide on the way you will present this information. Will this be a brochure? A map? A booklet?
10. Using scrap paper, plan the layout, including sketches of the illustrations you will include.
Creating the Presentation
11. Once this process is complete, you may begin creating your final project. Be sure to check spelling and grammar before you begin.
12. List the websites you have used in your research at the end of your project.
